3 Sustainable Home Decor Brands You Should Know About

Quarantining all over the world has shown that the space you create in and around your home is important. For example, according to Statista, home decor and furnishing e-commerce platforms have undergone a seven percent global traffic increase between January and March 2020. However, a majority of these platforms are fast furniture sites, like Ikea and Wayfair, which may be good for the budget, but have a huge impact on the environment that contribute to deforestation, the outsourcing of goods and cheap labor.

At Christine’s we only carry brands that are sustainably made, and made to last. Here are 3 sustainable home decor brands that you’ll find at our store, and brands you should know about.

1. CISCO BROTHERS

Cisco Brothers is a west coast company based out of Los Angeles, creating fine furniture made by people not machines. As founding members of the SFC (Sustainable Furniture Council), every piece of furniture for home decor is made by skilled Makers, using SFC approved materials, as well as repurposed and discarded materials. All materials used are ethically sourced, including the use of water-based stains and natural fabrics.

Every piece we carry from Cisco Brothers is unique and stylish. You know when you sit on Cisco-made furniture, you’ll be comfortable, and comfortable in knowing how it was made. Browse our stores to see what we have in stock.

2. LEE INDUSTRIES

Like Cisco Brothers, LEE Industries is a founding member of the SFC. As a member, they created their line of home decor furnishings called NaturaLEE, which are completely sustainably made. The NaturaLEE products are made with all SFC certified wood and soy-based materials in seat cushions, which reduce 30% of petroleum-based chemicals that are traditionally used in manufacturing. The use of soy-based materials not only supports local farmers, but removes nearly 2,200 barrels of crude oil in manufacturing for every million pounds of petroleum-based polyols that are replaced with soy-based polyols.

At Christine’s you will find LEE Industry’s NaturaLEE furnishings that are not only unique in craft but are made to last. And because NaturaLEE furniture is built to last, the longevity prevents it from being discarded in landfills, leaving a smaller environmental footprint. 3. PAPPELINA RUGS

Pappelina rugs are made and manufactured in Sweden. Although made of plastic, they’re not made of just any plastic, they’re made from PVC, which is sourced and handmade in Sweden. PVC can be melted down and recycled, unlike other plastics, because it’s non-toxic and contains no phthalates or heavy metals. Every rug produced is handmade at a local weaving mill by talented artisans and manufactured using lower energy consumption, and produces lower emissions of carbon dioxide when compared to most other plastics.

When you purchase a Pappelina rug from either one of our Christine’s locations, you can feel the difference. Each rug comes with a 3-year warranty but is built to last a lifetime if proper care instructions are followed. With this easy to clean, UV and allergy resistant rug that is non-slip and perfect for indoor or outdoor use, you won’t need another rug to add to your home decor. Browse our stores to see what we have in stock.

Home decor doesn’t need to have a negative impact on the environment. When you buy sustainably, you’re buying high quality design while also supporting sustainable manufacturing. Changing how we buy and where we buy will lead to changing the industry and the world for the better.
